Enabling the Next Generation of Nanotechnology Research

Applied Nanoparticles S.L  (AppNPs) is a nanotech engineering company focused on empowering researchers by designing and supplying high quality nanoparticles colloids at unmatched high concentrations, smartly aliquoted at affordable prices while providing expert advice on its use.

Applied Nanoparticles is a spin-off of the Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology (ICN2), the University Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB) and the Institut Català de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA). Among its co-founders are scientist from these institutions, international experts on RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation), experts in e-communication and experts in business development and technology transfer. AppNPs has the office address in Barcelona and the laboratory in the campus of Vall d'Hebrón Hospital Institute of Research (VHIR).

Applied Nanoparticles supports the Economy for the Common Good movement, which is focused towards an economic system that places the Common Good in the centre of all economic activity. We also defend the Circular Economy model as the alternative to the traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose); in which we keep resources in use as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use and reuse, and finally recover and regenerate products and material at the end of their service life. The third leg of Applied Nanoparticles' vision is our adhesion to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles, which can be summarized in:

- Technology development,  based on green chemistry, safer-by-design and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).

- Legal strategy, based on precaution and anticipatory company governance.

- Openness, being active in education, dissemination, transparency, quality information and dialogue.

AppNps devotes significant effort to education, public debate and public awareness of nanotechnology, using virtual tools (such as nanowiki, reference website and twitter account with more than 2500 followers), but also by hosting Master and PhD students for specific technical training. While keeping their previous research and training activities.

AppNPs designed, developed, industrially scaled up and commercially exploits BioGAS+ , an additive based on iron oxide nanoparticles to optimise the production of biogas. This method is protected in Europe by patent nr. EP2683662 and in the USA by patent no. US 9,416,373B2. For more information, visit our dedicated site https://www.biogasplus.info

AppNPs has received awards from the Repsol Foundation Entrepeneurship Fund, the Secretaria General Iberoamericana (SEGIB), the UK and Biogas award 2017, the 2017 COMPASS Award on Responsible Innovation, among others.
