Our Team

Scientists that have founded AppNps have been extensively involved in research and higher education.

Dr. Victor Puntes - Nanoparticles Design

Victor Puntes is a research professor on the nanotechnology field since 2005. He has an extended expertise in the design, synthesis and characterization, prisitne and in operando of inorganic NPs, ranging from metal to oxides, plasmonic to optical and with catalytic activities. He is active in teaching, training and communication and also in several technology transfer activities, participating in different public and private initiatives. He is an international expert on safety by design.

Dr. Eudald Casals - Nanoparticles Nanosafety

Eudald Casals is a Laboratory Engineer of the Inorganic Nanoparticles Group lead by Prof. Victor Puntes. During the last 8 years has been working in the synthesis and characterization of different inorganic nanoparticles, as well as the tracking of their evolution in different biological media using different characterization techniques. These nanomaterials have served as base material for different research and industrial projects related to nanotoxicity, nanomedicine, renewable energies and environmental remediation, among others. He is also very active in the numerous dissemination activities of the group to the scientific community and society.

Martí Busquets - Nanoparticles Synthesis and Engineering

Martí Busquets is our Nanoparticles Engineer and Lab Responsible. He spent 5 years in the Inorganic Nanoparticles Group of ICN (Catalan Institut of Nanotechnology) lead by Prof. Victor Puntes, focusing his research on the synthesis and characterization of both metallic and oxide nanoparticles and polymeric nanocomposites. He has been involved in EU projects on nanotoxicity, nanosafety and safety-by-design of nanoparticles. He has experience on training, specially training of PhD students on how to synthesize, work with and dispose nanoparticles. Additionally, he has collaborated in some science dissemination activities such as in the preparation of an exhibition for Cosmocaixa Science Museum (Barcelona). He enrolled Applied Nanoparticles on December 2013.

Ignasi Gispert - Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI)

Ignasi Gispert has a Bachelor Degree in Law from the UB (Universitat de Barcelona) and a Master Degree in European Studies from the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). He co-founded the only law Firm in Spain specialized in environmental jurisdiction. He works as researcher at the Institute of Law and Technology at the Laws Faculty of the UAB, and he is the administrator of Applied Nanoparticle S.L Company.

Dr. Antoni Sánchez – Composting

Antoni Sánchez is also Professor in the Departament of Chemical Engineering of UAB (University Autònoma of Barcelona) and co/responsible of the GICOM research group. His expertise ranges from environmental engineering to nanotechnology for environmental remediation. He works on the design and use of biological systems for the treatment of organic waste (composting and anaerobic digestion). He is currently Associate Editor of the journal Waste Management and member of the Editorial Board of the journal Bioresource Technology and Waste Management and Research.

Dr. Raquel Barrena - Biogas Production

Raquel Barrena is a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2006). Currently in a Postdoctoral researcher position in GICOM research group, researching on the biological treatment of organic solid wastes through composting and anaerobic digestion. Specifically in the use of respirometric techniques as a tool for monitoring the composting process and the production of add value products by solid state fermentation. Researching, also, in the use of nanoparticles to improve the anaerobic digestion of organic solid wastes.

Dr. Xavier Font - Waste Treatment

Xavier Font is Professor of the Departament d’Enginyeria Química at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and member of the GICOM Research Group. His main research activities are focused on the valorization of organic solid waste through composting, anaerobic digestion and solid-state fermentation. Currently he is also focusing his research on the environmental impact evaluation of solid waste treatment facilities and on the use of nanotechnology for the environment: use of nanoparticles for wastewater treatment, gas adsorption and nanotoxicology.

Josep Saldaña - e-communication

Josep Saldaña Cavallé is the editor/programmer NanoWiki, tracking nanotechnology since 2005. Co-author of the NanoWiki open source book collection. Working in the computer industry, media and telecoms since 1984. Passionate of the nanosatellites, a paradigm shift in the space exploration through the use of the nanotechnology.

Joan Escofet - Graphic Designer

Joan Escofet is a content designer. With an education on art and architecture, passionate about collage and visual explanations; artist, videomaker, vj and sometimes a ethnographer, since 1996 he works on the construction of the visual image in different formats - architecture, graphics, web, video and paper - to convey meaning for grassroots urban participatory projects, nanotechnology books, or other collaborative projects to reveal context.

Nanonica Europe S.L - Business Development

Nanonica S.A., a Swiss-based company created in 2006, together its Spanish-based subsidiary Nanonica Europe S.L., is devoted to the transfer of knowledge from Academia to Industry in the areas of nanotechnology and microtechnology.
